Donald Maiden, a young boy from Dallas, is too young to be depressed. He’s too young to be going through this unfathomable circumstance. He is too embarrassed to even be seen by other kids.

What happened to him is a tragedy beyond words.

The gunman is being held on a charge of “serious bodily injury to a child.” That is a first-degree felony with a sentence of five to 99 years in prison. Donald’s grandmother is pushing for a charge of attempted murder.

The damage done to Donald cannot be taken back. Not only is his face disfigured, but he hates the way he looks now.

‘He don’t want the kids to look at his face,’ his grandmother, Sharon Locklin, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. ‘He says, “I look like a monster, granny.” I’m like, “No, you don’t.”‘
