A month after Jordan Hurd, the blogger behind The 2 Seasons, moved into her Charlotte, North Carolina house, the fan in her range hood stopped working.
And it turns out, replacing those things is expensive. Since she also wasn’t fond of the off-centered crown molding on the ceiling around the appliance, she took it was a sign to buy a hood insert (much less expensive) and build a custom cover from scratch instead.
According to Hurd, the trickiest part of the project was getting the half-built box structure level and anchored to the wall. “While I didn’t actually build the box, I was able to help with ‘mounting the box,'” she says. “Plus, I did the painting which is always fun.”
