With vivid color, botanical patterns and a flood of natural light, Celerie Kemble and Lindsey Herod give a Houston house the gift of eternal spring.
Celerie Kemble: When I design, I tend to start with the color palette. My former associate Lindsey Herod, who worked with me on this project, took the same approach. The most complicated element is finding a fabric that incorporates a lot of the colors you want, and that tends to be a floral because those more complex patterns are generally printed with screens that allow for up to eight or even a dozen colors. I start from there and then begin to add in solids and stripes.
The custom living room wallpaper was hand-painted on silk by Fromental, and all the flora — including redbud trees and azaleas — are evocative of the clients’ home state of Texas.
